About Castle Eden Dene (OS):

Some nice crags in the woods. There are quite a few different crags, with about 60 routes total, 30 to 50 feet long in all grades from Severe to Extreme. The setting is peaceful and the limestone in quite steep in some places. Worth a look. |

| Directions: | OS 93 GR NZ 429 392 Alt. 50m 7 miles WNW of Hartlepool. Take the B1281 going east from the A19 by the golf course, and after one mile at Castle Eden, turn left up the road to the castle. From here one can walk down to the river, where the crags are scattered along both sides of the riverbank. The better crags tend to be upstream. |
