About The Edge Climbing Centre:
The Edge is Sheffield's second major modern climbing wall after the Foundry and Sheffield climbers are really lucky to have two such great facilities. The Edge has three climbing rooms: the main leading walls, the bouldering room, and the woody. To use the woody you pay seperately and are not allowed in the other rooms. The main leading room is considerably smaller than the Foundry but depite that there seem to be more or less the same amount of routes. The walls are mostly vertical or overhanging, mostly resin coated wood or highly featured Entreprise panels. Two of the walls are adjustable in angle with the larger of these capable of being tilted to 45 degrees overhanging. The route setting for both the lead wall and bouldering room is mostly excellent and carried by Edge resident Percy Bishton. Percy seems to have the knack of creating really interesting, often surprisingly technical routes with bolt holds, in many different styles of climbing. This route setting combined with excellent basic structure make the Edge well worth a visit. The Edge also has a great selection of nice holds that are regularly cleaned and its open till 11pm midweek too. Overall the climbing is a little easier than at the Foundry. The bouldering is a not quite as brutal the spread of route grades is slightly easier. Having said that there's plenty to do whatever grade you climb. See sheffieldclimbing.com for more info. |
