About Claret:
Must-go place! This limestone cliff was mainly equiped by the departed Hugues Beauzile (135 routes by himself). Located 30 km north of Montpellier, it provides around 180 routes. They are all but few over 6b/5.10c, and the average level is high, mainly 7a-7b+. The sport-climbing routes are bolted but pretty exposed, they require a good physical shape and are continuous. The height of the routes is between 25 and 40 meters, so usually one pitch with a 70m rope, and rarely 2 pitches. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, NO FIRE of any kind (to eat, to heat yourself, to burn your toilet paper). Don't throw you cigarettes away either, please! Good crag from late fall to early spring, warm place otherwise. |
