These limestone cliffs are dominating the Hérault river, north of Montpellier, and just north of the village of Saint-Bauzille. Many areas are equiped : the Face Sud, the Face Ouest, and the Mur des Lamentations on the east side of the river, L'Euzière and Le Rocher de Sion on the west side near the small village of Agonès. The Face Sud (south face!) (over 100 routes) has many easy routes, from 5.10a to 5.11, some with two short pitches, on good bolts. 5 sectors from west to east : Cengle de Josep, Epingle à cheveux, Benje, La Grotte, Baume d'Aymé. La Grotte et Le Cengle are good for beginners. The Face Ouest (west face...) offers many multipitch routes, up to 4 or 5 lengths. Some are sport climbing routes, others are aid climbing (up to A2). The main sector of this area is the Dalle des Bénédictins, with routes between 5.10a and 5.12a. Le Mur des Lamentations is a newer area over the road, with a hundreth of short sport routes, from 10 to 30 meters, over 5.10c. It's north of the Face Ouest. L'Euzière (4 sectors, 60 routes) and the Rocher De Sion (3 sectors, 50 routes), have sport routes, in the 5.10 and 5.11, up to 3 pitches. campground in Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois. |

| Directions: | It is 40 minutes northwest of Montpellier : on the road maps, look for "Grotte des Demoiselles", just south of Ganges. Get out of Montpellier on the route D986, in the direction of Ganges and Saint-Martin-de-Londres. Drive on this road until you reach the village of Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois. Then follow the trail for the Grotte des Demoiselles (which is on the bottom of the South Face). To go to L'Euzière, from Saint-Bauzille, cross the river in the direction of Agones, and look for the trail in a curve south of the cliff. |
