Heaven's Gate is a decent gym. Its best feature is the fact its cheap as can be, only 3 Euro(for students 4 Euros otherwise) Monday through Friday from 10am until 4pm, and 5 Euro to climb all day Saturday. Sunday is expensive. The gym is built in some sort of old factory building and has an indoor bouldering area, a small outdoor bouldering area, some short TR walls (~7-10 meters) and (20) 30 meter lead routes that go up through these strange vertical tunnels. The walls are all plywood or concrete, no texture really but still fun to mess around on for 3 euros per day(edit:most of the plywood walls had texture, only the childrens wall didn't. some areas at the opening of the 30 meter shafts had very slick steel). All equipment is rentable, and there is a small (im mean tiny) store with some basics like chalk, draws, ropes and some clothing, as well as a small bar (cant have a proper german climbing hall without a bar can you?)
The price is good if you have people to split it with, since none of the ropes or caribiners are included in the price of the day pass it goes up quickly if you don't have any gear of your own. Rope rental 4 euros. | Directions: | Take the U or S Bahn to Ostbahnhof and exit out onto Friedenstrasse and turn right. After 50 meters turn left onto Grafingerstrasse and head into the Kult Fabrik night club complex. Heavens Gate is located in the tall building just off to the left, and there is a sign on the building. You have to walk around the building to get inside. |
