Description:
Named after Erich Renger, an early pioneer of this area, this one's got it all - face, crack, and slab. A classic! Start below a prominent corner that begins about 50 feet up (a short walk left from South Crack - see previous route). Follow easy rock up and right to ledge. Climb face past 1st ring bolt (crux) and follow straight-in jam crack to ledge. Walk left and climb the beautiful jam/lieback crack in corner to 2nd ring bolt and belay. Straigh up through short off-width and climb steep slab past 3rd ring bolt to summit.

a free solo for me
This was one of the first routes we did in the Elb. I hadn't figured out how to place good knots, and figured I was freesoloing anyway. A good experience with a few burly sections. Each of the three pitches has crux sections. I found the first pitch easiest.
