The story goes that two Scottish climbers made the first ascent, in extremely bad weather, in the mid-1970. In 2008 Gordon Thompson reported that Newcastle University students did a new route on face of Goat around 67-68 possibly led by J Pearson.

Description:
125m. (The Vegetarian) In the centre of the front side of the Goat is a prominent overgrown and groove - it is seldom (if ever) climbed. A brief description is included for inspired botanists. 1) 5/A1, 40m. From the base of the corner, climb out right on aid to a groove then diagonal back left into the main corner. Up this before moving out right and up to a stance. 2) 4/A1, 35m. Climb the main groove, then move out right (A1) past a small roof. Step left again into the corner, and climb up a slab on the right to a stance.
