An alpine-like setting of mountains that rise straight from the fjord to around 1500 m. The highest point being Jiehkkevarri at 1833 m. These elevations might not sound all that great, but due to the fact that all climbs start at the sea-level these mountains offer quite a bit of climbing.
As well as climbing and hiking this peninsula offer world class extreme skiing (and also some easier off-piste slopes). But better bring your skins and snowshoes as there are no skilifts.
One thing that makes Lyngen so special is that there are no guidebooks, so one can go and discover 'new' routes and slopes. But the charm is also one of Lyngen's downsides as you might have to spend quite a lot of time finding the best climbs/ski runs.
