About Lviv or Lvov:

This is the capital city for the Western Ukraine, a region often considered more European-oriented than the rest of the country. It is also an interesting tourist destination, with loads of history around each corner. In the last 100 years the city has been under Austro-Hungarian supervision, Polish rule, German occupation and finally Russian/Soviet one after the Second World War. You can find the spelling of the city in numerous ways on different maps - usually Lvov in Russian or Lwow in Polish pronunciation. Now it is Lviv in Ukrainian - but to keep it simple I call it Liemberg in German :)

Climbing-wise, there is a small hard-core community of alpinists/climbers in the city, usually visiting Dovbushevi Skaly for the w-end trip and Crimea or Kavkaz for the road trips. There is a small outdoor bouldering site on the Vinniki road, and bouldering caves at a couple of people's houses. See detail here.

You can visit Jevgenij Grafov's site here to find more information or meet people (English is spoken very well by many).
