About Bear Mountain:

Bear Mountain is a 20 KM drive Southwest of Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Nearest town or city: Dawson Creek
Directions: From Dawson Creek take the (OLD) hart hi way south 8 miles turn left on (rd 233), This road goes to the microwave towers on top of the ridge, Follow rd 233 past all houses park at the last switch-back (dont go all the way to the towers) there is lots of room, As you park you can see a wide trail on the left side of the road if you have a good 4x4 just keep on driving. The trail follows the ridge top for 3/4 of a mile (stay on ridge) and goes through one gate (leave gates the way you find them) if still driving this is a good place to park as there is only 200 meters more you can drive but is one more spot to park. From the last turnaround there is a hiking/ horse trail that goes on forever with more cliffs way farther down but a 20 minute walk takes you to our climbing spot. Our climbs start just where the trail opens and there are some 30-40 foot cliffs on your right a little farther there is an old fire ring on top where local partiers sometimes hang out, there are some trails that lead up and down( go back to where the trail closes up and look on your left(now) for a 3' high rock horn on the very top of a 20' cliff the best trail up and down is right beside it, Look for rock seats and belay platforms that we built along the bottom there are only a few climbs that are farther south than the bolts on top of the big block , All are within 200 to 300 meters of one another and have had a light scrubbing compared to Hasler Crag there is some fixed webbing on trees on top of the cliff but it is more of an experiment to see how long it lasts with the squirrles, rats and sunlight they do mark good T.R. trees for some climbs, Please, please be kind to the trees when you use them to T.R., use slings or two people to thread the ropes around them so they dont get ropeburn, ever. P.S. dont run T.R. ropes across the trail or quads will run them over. With out top out anchors on our climbs it can be hard to find them all so bring a couple wire brushes and get creative.
