About Bear Ridge Crag:

This small area is located in the Lantzville Foothills in the north part of Nanaimo. It is a single cliff that faces north and can be seen from The Steppes (southwest). The setting was pristine wilderness but has recently been logged changing the views markedly. The cliff itself is still untouched and lets hope it remains that way. Wildlife, including bears, is abundant. There are twelve routes along the wall with the potential for more. Most are sport with a couple of trad and mixed routes.
Nearest town or city: Nanaimo
Directions: The most direct route is from the end of Vipond Road off Doumont Road. A moutain bike will get you there and back much faster. Follow the gravel road past the gate for about 1km to an open grassy area. Take the left fork beyond the open area and follow this road through the valley for about 2kms. This section is mostly flat then there is a steep hill and an intersection. Take the left turn that continues uphill. At the crest of the hill continue left. 200m further take a left onto an overgrown skidder track that is marked with flagging tape. Follow the flagging tape down the trail and up onto a small hill. The trail ends at the top of the cliff with a great view. Somewhat tricky to find. Hiking time there is about 1hr while biking time is about 40min.
