About Bras du Nord (ice):
Le Bras du Nord river is a popular ice-climbing destination in winter. There are several areas to climb at, the best-known being La Mer de Glace (the Sea of Ice), a multi-pitch Grade III route with several variants. |
Nearest town or city: | St-Raymond |
Directions: | Drive to Saint-Raymond, cross the river and turn right on Mgr. Vachon to follow the west shore of the Saint Anne river (street soon becomes Rang du Nord.) After 4 or 5 km., turn left on Rang Saguenay. This road crosses over to the Bras du Nord river valley. Drive for about 15km, at which point the Mer de Glace ice will be visible high up on the right-hand side of the valley. A variety of other routes are findable in nearby gullies. |
