About El Charco Del Ingenio:

El Charco Del Ingenio is the Botanic Gardens of San Miguel. The charge is 30 pesos ($3) per person per day. They don't have a problem with climbers right now, but it is a nature preserve, so please be respectful so that this doesn't change. NO SPORT ROUTES ALLOWED!!!!!! There really isn't any sport climbing potential anyway, but even if there was, they specifically don't want any bolted climbs. They only allow bolts for fixed anchors at the tops of crack climbs. Lots of birds nest on the walls, and lots of plants grow on the walls, so DON'T CLIMB CRACKS THAT BIRDS NEST IN, and no chopping big plants. There are a handful of really good boulder problems in the pool area near the little waterfall, and there's probably a bit more down canyon. It is a very beautiful place with some totally classic climbs established already, so let's keep it open for us!
AS OF JANUARY '07, CLIMBING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED IN THE CANYON.
Nearest town or city: San Miguel de Allende
Directions: The Botanic Gardens are basically in town, so just ask anyone how to get there. The climbing is just a five minute walk and short downclimb on a ladder from the entrance to the park. Just ask at the front desk how to get into the canyon.
