About Captain Cook State Rec:

Bouldering area in the kenai tidal flats, there is a ton of boulders out here, most only accessible when the tide is out, but there are a couple on the shore that you can climb when the tide is in. The weather is usually not bad can be a bit chilly when the wind is blowing but seems to be pretty nice on avg. Boulders are different types, granite, mixed quartz. The area is pretty empty and any people who are out there won't bother you, we haven't run into any other climbers yet, only tourists walking along the beach or locals who rode their atvs in the other direction. Definitely worth checking out and we will add routes and pictures as we chart them :)
Nearest town or city: Nikiski/Kenai
Directions: Drive north from kenai, through nikiski until the road ends at the Capt cook state rec area, turn left to go to the picnic area, there is day use parking and a bathroom over looking the beach, walk down the trail on the left that the atvs use for beach access. If the tide is out you will see a play ground of boulders! Be sure to check tide reports and watch the water as it comes in faster then you think, if the tide is in follow the beach to the left and you will find a couple good boulders to climb on including Seed of Redoubt and Ziggurat, accessible during high tide. Enjoy!
