7,535 feet. This is the highest peak in the Eagle River drainage. YUKLA means "eagle" in the native tongue. The peak itself does not seem notable until you are near it, as it is surrounded by peaks close to it in elevation, but once at the base, the sheer size of the peak becomes evident. From the base of the approach to the summit, you will gain almost 6,000 feet. Best climbed in the summer, but it does make for an exciting winter attempt for those with the will and knowledge to overcome the conditions. APPROACH: Park at the Eagle River Nature Center and head east up the North Fork of Eagle River, and follow the trail for about six miles. Icicle Creek drains out of the Icicle Glacier drainage just north of the West Ridge of Yukla Peak. Yukla can be climbed by accessing the glacier and following it up to the summit ridge, or by hiking to the Twin Falls area, heading uphill towards Blue-eyed Lake, and accessing the summit ridge from that side of the peak.
