About Hunter Creek ICE:
One hour north of Anchorage brings you to this long and deep canyon on the Knik River Road. Currently has about four dozen routes from grades 2 to 6+ and up to 650' tall along a main channel and inside several amphitheaters past the fork, with more to be found. Snowshoes or skis can help on the approach. Beware of thin ice and small ledges above swirling pools on the high volume river approach. A small inflatable raft will get you past the grotto up the right fork to a section of master ice that few have seen. |
