About Valdez Area Rock:

VALDEZ!!! To the ice climber, the words mean great ice climbs in a beautiful alpine setting, and to the extreme skier, there is no better destination. But to the rock climber, it will never be considered a destination. However, with the increasing trend in sport climbing, rock route development has increased in the Valdez area in the past few years. Most of the rock in the Valdez area would be considered fair to poor in most established climbing areas, but aggressive scouting and cleaning has revealed some decent rock. Many of the routes only see a few ascents a year, so there may be some loose holds, moss or lichen on many of them. The grades are also subjective, as many of the routes have not had enough ascents to form a consensus opinion. Despite the less than desirable conditions, area climbers have managed to develop some fairly nice routes.
