About Granite Dells (AKA THe High Rappel Dell):
Located north of Prescott the Granite Dells is a large area of granite domes and canyons made of rock similar to that found in Joshua Tree NP. Climbing activities center on two regions of the Dells known as The High Rappel and Watson Lake Dells. The High Rappel area is a diverse assortment of one and two pitch sport and trad routes. The High Rappel cliff is the long, west facing granite wall that sits above the 89 hwy just north of Prescott. Over 100 routes line the 150-ft high cliff. Some routes on west side of highway as well. Watson Lake Dells~ Closer to Prescott is the Watson Lake Dells climbing area. This is a part of the Granite Dells that surrounds scenic Watson Lake. See the Watson Lake area for details. |

Directions: | North of Prescott on SR 89. Obvious cliffs on both sides of hwy. At the north end of the main cliff turn right on Granite Gardens Dr. and park in the big obvious pullout (DO NOT PARK IN PULLOUTS ALONG THE HIGHWAY!). From the parking area follow trails and scramble up slabs to base of wall. There may be "No Trespassing" signs, but climbers continue to visit the cliffs with few problems, try to keep a low profile. |
