This peak is more mountaineering than rock climbing; the rock is desert junkoid. Located just north of Organ Pipe National Monument, this is the warmest area in southern Arizona in the winter. The desert is stark and spectacular. A fine mid-winter adventure can be had here if you don't come strictly for the quality of the rock climbing.
Approach: A couple hours drive west of Tucson you'll come to Why—don’t ask.. Go left (south) on highway 85 a ways and you'll see the peak on the left. Allow about an hour to hike to the peak, about another hour of rock scrambling will get you to the north col and the start of the climbing. Allow 8 to 10 hours car to car for a fast party.
