About Purple Stones:

A forgotten bouldering area in the middle of Topanga Cyn. The namesake rock is conglomerate sandstone that really is purple. The creek flows year round and it's easy to forget your right below the road. There are some solid looking bolts on top of some of the taller boulders, but the start/landings are over deep water now. There are still a few fun problems with decent landings. More fun adventure day than serious session.
Nearest town or city: Topanga
Directions: PURPLE STONES is located along Topanga Canyon approximately one half mile south of the town of Topanga. Topanga Canyon can be reached off the Ventura Freeway from the north, or off the Pacific Coast Highway from the south. If coming from the north, look for the following prominent sign: "NO PARKING ANY TIME NEXT 11/2 MILES." This sign is located at the southern edge of the town. Park just before the sign and walk (very, very carefully) down Topanga Canyon road. In 6/10ths of a mile, there will be a well-defined scrambleway on the left. Take this down to the canyon bottom. Once in the canyon, turn upstream and boulderup the canyon for about 1/10th of a mile to reach the good sites. If coming from the Pacific Coast Highway, park just before a "NO PARKING" sign identical to the one described above. Again, be very cautious while hiking up the busy road. In about 3/4ths mile there will be a paved turnout on the right (it's blocked by a locked gate). From this turnout walk another 1/10th mile uphill to reach the better path described above. EDIT: I Couldn't find the scramble way, but a car had recently gone over the side creating a clear cut path to the bottom of the canyon. Also walking down Topanga with a pad on your back gets a V7 for the sketch factor.
