Climbers who venture to Big Bear Valley have likely passed massive boulder fields, lying undeveloped and waiting for a climber to pull up a pad and send. Unfortunately, with the popularity of areas like Tramway and Stoney Point, Big Bear was gravely overlooked. Until now. Before this point, we were those climbers who had grown up climbing in these mountains, who knew Holcomb Valley inside and out, no guidebook needed. It wasn’t until a recent hike to check out Black Bluff that we opened our eyes and realized, “Wow, Big Bear has world class bouldering!” And this started us out on the quest to develop new bouldering areas that are not only in a beautiful and serene setting (unlike Stoney Point) but quality problems.
