| Twisters is THE place for climbers. Known as the "Cheers of climbing gyms," Twisters continues to be the SanFrancisco Bay Area's most friendly climbing gym. Everyone who frequents the gym is greeted by name and is encouraged to climb and have fun with the die hard members and youth teams that make Twisters Rock Climbing Gym one of the strongest competitive rock climbing training facilities in the U.S. If you get there and kids are climbing all over the place, they are training for the USAC climbing ABS and SCS seasons. 90% of them make it to the top 10 in the Western U.S. for their age categories, so they should be able to give you a few pointers. The staff is extremely inviting and everyone climbs. There are no non-climbing, "birthday party staff members" during the week, so they will be glad to put on some shoes and climb with you or show you a few tips and techniques for free. Since Twisters is a climbing training facility there are classes for everyone. Youth programs begin at age 3 and continue to the high school senior age group of 17-18 years of age. Adults train for the ABS and SCS seasons of USAC on Monday and Wednesday nights. The head coaches of the youth teams extend their training techniques and expertise to the masses and many people show up for the informal "class" that they put on for anyone who would like to get better at climbing, for competition or not. Bottom line, this place was built for climbers, by climbers and makes sure you have a good time when you are there. |
