About Penstock Cracks:

A split boulder high above Salt Reservoir. Four good short hard cracks. about 40 ft.
Approach: Head down Moklumne river, away from the domes. Take the last paved road right before Ellis Rd.--FS 8. Follow this about 8 miles past various turns to the Cole creek turn. Turn toward Cole creek and cross a rickety bridge after about 1/4 mile. Go Back up hill and stay right toward Salt Springs overlook. After about 1 mile, go straight on deteriorating dirt road, instead of turning left toward overlook. Follow this bad road for about 1/4 mile. Park. The climbs are on your left, down the hill. It is best to go to the top, then contour down and around back toward your car. You'll soon see the split boulder.
