About The Promised Land:

Same Volcanic rock as that found in Penitente Canyon, but a lot taller. Most routes seem to fall within the 60-80ft range with a few topping out at around 100ft. Looks like there may be around 30 bolted routes on this cliff band. Nice and quite and way off the beaten path. The cliffs have a sunny aspect so either climb early in the morning or it looks like they may be in the shade late in the afternoon. Probably after 4pm in the Summer.
Nearest town or city: Monte Vista
Directions: From Del Norte drive East towards Monte Vista. At about 6.5 miles you will come to a little scenic stop with rocks carved to look like Wagon Wheels, Animals, and stuff. This is the Old Spanish Trail turn off. Take the Old Spanish trail road and follow it for just around six miles to Nicomodes Gulch. The road will pull up to an obvious cliff band with bolts. There are some routes before the forest service fenceline. If you continue past the fenceline for maybe a 100 yards the road pulls next to the main cliff band with a nice pullout. A quarter mile down the road there is another cliff band with a couple of bolted slab routes. This seems to be the last developed spot in the vicinity. This is open your trunk and belay cragging at it's best. This is forest service land so you can camp where you want. Be sure to stay on the Old Spanish Trail road on your way in. There is an AK47 toting loony who loves to fire shots first and ask questions later if you tresspass on his land. Fortunately his land is easily avoided.
