About Factory Shoals:
If you like to boulder and live near Covington this problem is worth your time. There is lots of rock here most of it is too small to matter. However, under the first picnic area is a small outcrop that sports a twenty foot slighty overhung face. It is a worthwhile highball boulder problem. The landing is not bad. It is also simple to rig a quick toprope (which is what I do). There are other boulders across the river, but in general they not worth foolin' with. |
Nearest town or city: | Covington |
Directions: | Get to Factory Shoals park in Newton County about ten miles south of Covington. There is a two dollar park fee. Turn into the first picnic area on your left. You will see many tables, some beautiful rapids, and a faint trail leading down the hill to your left. Follow the trail down and around to the base of the boulder. You'll know it when you see it. Info. on this area can be found by searching online. |
