Description:

Nira Rock is an urban climbers "hidden gem." Small and relatively undiscovered – and surprisingly beautiful – it offers some great climbing right in Jamaica Plain, and is accessible from the Green and Orange lines. It's a small site with two short (40') but challenging trails, both offering toproping and eyebolt anchors, stiff grades (mostly vertical), and a solid puddingstone face with a mix of textures. There are also bouldering opportunities. Perfect for a climb when you don't feel like hauling out to Quincy. There's also a small orchard where you are welcome to sample the apples, pears, plums, cherries, raspberries and blueberries, and a hilltop meadow perfect for a picnic. Free and open to the public, and managed by neighbors ("Friends of Nira Rock.") You can learn more and get great directions at their site nirarock.org.
