About Rattlesnake Rocks:
Located in the Blue Hills Reservation, these granite cliffs provide an ambiance of solitude that is far from Quincy Quarries, despite the close proximity.
A slightly longer approach, combined with excellent views and a density of good climbing make this area popular with some weekend warriors. There is plenty of trad climbing, some sport, and a whole lot of toproping going on here. You can expect to have an area to yourself. |

Directions: | From the South: Take Exit 6 off I-93N, left off the exit. Follow 3/4 mile to Shea Rink on your left. From the north: Take exit 8 off I-93, follow Willard St to Shea Memorial Hockey Rink and park there. Take trail at far end of parking lot next to the tennis courts. Follow the trail down the hill through the pine glade. Continue along horse path where it crosses the small bridge across the pond/ swamp. Continue along this trail until to come to a street, Wampatuck Rd. Follow Wampatuck Rd to the left for 5-10 min. Take dirt road, past the fire gate, on right. Rocks are visible a short distance through the trees immediately on your right as well as further down the dirt road another 150 yards or so. An alternate approach is to hike the blue-marked trail from the parking lot, directly across Wampatuck Rd. instead of along it, and straight to the Overlook. It follows a more meandering route in the area immediately around the rink but is well marked and avoids the sometimes swampy area at the bottom of the pine glade and takes you up the back of the rocks to the top of the crag instead of to the base of the climbs. Approx. 20 mins. |
