About Brickyards:

An old depression on the shores of the Mississippi, fills with ice every winter. Popular area for residents around the Cities to ice climb. Short, simple, great place to learn.
Nearest town or city: St. Paul
Directions: It's located in Lilydale Park in St. Paul. Drive along the river (Water Street W) until you come to a point where there is a tiny road turnout (just before a sharp turn) and a "Brickyards Usage" sign, east of the lakes. Park here. Walk along the trail for a ways until there is a split; one trail will go off to the left and behind you and uphill, and another will go slightly off to the right. Take the trail to the left and go up the hill, trough a creek bed (which should be frozen). There will eventually be a trail that leads to the left and up, this is to the East Clay Pit. Stay on the trail to the West or Middle Clay Pits. You'll go past a giant bowl of ice, this is the middle one (it even has a sign). Continue on to the West Clay Pit.
