About Smokey Hollow :
This land is owned by Sciota Land Company. Access is being determined. As of now, it is ILLEGAL to climb here, however, all the locals say it is fair game. It is nice to have a beautiful crag in the Jackson, Ohio area! Hopefully, one day, we will be able to climb here with full permission. Climbing would be possible in the pouring rain because of a 30 foot horizontal overhang. If you get the itch to climb on a rainy day..this is your spot. You could spend a weekend here and never climb it all. Notice the graffiti...take out your trash...be an advocate for access and leave-no-trace. Please be responsible. |
Nearest town or city: | Jackson, Ohio |
Directions: | From Jackson take Rt. 35 East. Turn Left on Orpheus Road. Look for the Richards Brothers Fruit Farm signs (and make sure to get some apples or cider, best in the world) Take a LEFT on Smokey Hollow Road (second road on the left just before the fruit farm). Go a couple three miles. It is on the RIGHT side of the road, you will not miss it. This is about 1 hour drive from Athens, another hot spot for Classic Ohio Bouldering. |
Latitude, Longitude: | 38.99052, -82.46359 |
Access Issues: | Once again...climbing here would be considered TRESPASSING! Therefore it is ILLEGAL to climb here. But there is potential, and that is what OHIO climbing is all about. Finding the potential and working to make it legal! Update 8/11: All locals say to go ahead and use it. No resistance to climbing here, though it is still trespassing. Climb at your own risk. |
