| This is a cliff side off the Arkansas River. I found the location in early 2010 while off-roading with a couple of buddies. The wall is part of the Camp Gruber ORV Park. The land is managed by Muskogee County as a recreational area. I’m not sure if the vertical face is natural or if it was cut to make room for the nearby railroad track. The area has a lot of potential with a large number of first ascents available. Climbable area spans a little less than half a mile. I did not pay attention to the height last time I was there but it is at most 20 feet taller than anything I have climbed at Chandler Park. There are easier routes available as well as some really hard looking ones. I am pretty sure I was the first to ascend. I could be wrong though. I did not mark my route and forgot my camera the day of the climb. The little input I can give is that the rock is dirty and loose. It is a 5-6 mile walk around to the nearest road if you can’t get back up the wall and the only way you can get saved in an emergency is by boat. Please don’t get the place shut down (get yourself to the nearest road and then call 911). Making emergency services come get you will only cause the County to shut down climbing. We really need to develop the area to make it more climbable. The area is public land but you need an ATV or lifted Jeep to get to the cliff. The trails are tight and meant for ATVs. A truck just won’t fit and anything with a nice paint job is out of the question. It is less than a half mile hike from the last place a car can park (there is limited parking on the side of the road). If a Trad route can be found or Sport route is developed it would be easy to get there by boat. |
