Unique rock, unlike anything else at Smith. Here you can climb on volcanic tufas, honeycombed mud, and ultra-steep cave routes. The left and right sides of the formation contain mostly vertical to less than vertical moderates. The cave in the center contains steep routes ranging from 5.12 to 5.14. Many are projects that have been waiting for ascents for 15 or so years. The approach takes about 30 minutes if you park at the turnaround and hop the river, heading for the Burma road. If you park at the main parking area and go across the bridge (necessary in high water seasons) it takes 45 min or more. Well worth the hike!
ps. Mike S. sent one of the 13+ cave projects (on his 4th try) when we visited today. He's got his eye on the 14 next door; so hardmen, you better hurry up if you want another go!
