About Blue Run Rocks:
Blue Run Rocks are located in a Pennsyvania state forest near a small village called Sabinsville. The rock consists of some large boulders that have broken off a cliff section. The height of the tallest climbs in this area is slightly less than 40 feet, yet there is a good variety of climbing. There are a number of sport routes, several trad climbs, some top rope anchors, and lots of bouldering that has yet to reach its full potential. I will post here the most current guide that I have written. A number of the climbs listed here have been climbed, but I don't yet have the names and descriptions. I will add them soon. I don't intend to have the guide finished until after the summer is over, as increased activity in the area keeps turning up new routes and problems. Hope that you find this helpful.
The boulders are named Campfire Boulder, The Main Attraction, and Aiders Rock. This area received some attention in the 80's There are still a number of old pitons and 1/4" aid bolts around. If you need some directions on getting to the rocks you can see a trail map by displaying all photos for this area.
To get the most up to date guides and info on Blue Run Rocks and for all of the other climbing locations around Wellsboro your best source would be to go to the new Rock Climbing and Outdoor Outfitters store in downtown Wellsboro. Stopping in the store for a chat will greatly enhance your climbing experience around the area. They can give you phone numbers of people who will happily show you around and climb with you. They are also the only source that I know of for getting guides the the Fork Hill bouldering area. They are located at 71 Main Street Wellsboro, PA (570.724.5155). Their online site is: |

Directions: | For Mapquest directions note that the closest town is Sabinsville(zip code 16943)...From Wellsboro, follow US 6 W for about 14 miles. Turn right onto Shin Hollow Rd(Note: Red Manhatton Station on Corner). Follow this for another 4 miles, pull off road at "Blue Ridge Run Trail" sign. Follow trail for 1.5 miles. About 300 yards after you cross over the stream look for a trail that heads up and to the left(there are actually 2 trails that go left take the second one-it won't be overgrown). Follow this up and over the steep hill and to the rocks. I also put up an aerial and a topo giving you a rough idea of the trail and roads. See the above link if you are interested. |
