About Pinnacle:

If this rock was at the Uberfall you'd never get on it since it would be mobbed from morning to night with aspiring climbers looking for a good moderate difficulty testpiece, it's not a give away and there is enough quality bouldering here (on boulders scattered along the ridge) to keep you busy for several days. The area lies on public land so access is not an issue although the walking distance is a little lengthy, about ninety minutes. The rocks (only one is listed so far) are strewn along several miles of typical Pennsylvania ridgeline near Hawk Mountain. The best we found so far is pictured below and though it is not very big it is of supreme quality. If a little walking doesn't scare you and your looking for a quality backwoods climbing/bouldering experience this area may rank among the best you'll find in Pennsylvania.
Nearest town or city: Hamburg
Directions: The GPS Coordinates given below were taken at the cliff base with a GPS reciever, so the map you might download will accurately show the cliff's location. Park at the Hamburg resivoir and hike to Pulpit Rock (approx 30 min) continue past this view point and towards the pinnacle, once you reach the Valley Rim Trail (approx 1 hr total so far) you will pass through an area where the trail goes through a small boulder pile (sounds vague but you cant mistake it) from this point hike another twentyfive minutes till you see on your right an oak about six or eight inches in diameter with three big slashes hacked into its side again this tree is unmistakeable, from the tree bushwack straight downhill (about a hundred yards) along a faint trail to the top of the rocks.
