About Confluence Ice Flows:
As far as I know, Tim Anderson is the man who unearthed this little gem. There are rumors of a "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania" further north, Pine Creek Canyon I think it's called, but Confluence has the best ice I've ever seen south of New York. Lots of flows, nothing much under WI4-. Watch the top-outs, I saw one guy dislodge several hundred pounds of shale... he was lucky, you might not be. Best to hook a tree. |

Directions: | Fire up Mapquest and head for Confluence. Once you get there, look for the bike trail (there are signs everywhere). The trail in to the flows is near the boat launch, and it's a 2.5 mile hike or ski in on a flat grade, then 800' up a hill on the left, past a culvert and some buildings. It might be best to just ask our own 'tanderson' for beta. |
