About Starr Mountain:
Though it's off the beaten track, Starr Mountain is a worthwhile destination; isolation keeps it from being crowded. Apart from a few sport routes on the lower tier, this is a trad climbing area, but there are good toprope opportunities for novices once they've been led. |

Directions: | From Atlanta, go north on I-75 to US 411 (exit 293). Follow 411 East into Tennessee and continue through the town of Benton. After a few miles, you'll cross over the Hiawassee River; watch for a turn-off on the right (Spring Creek Rd.) less than a half mile after crossing the river. Drive just over two miles on Spring Creek Rd. to a pull-off on the left next to railroad tracks. Cross the tracks, pick up a trail on the other side and continue up the fairly strenuous trail to a waterfall; bear right here and continue up the trail to the cliff. |
