About Carderock:
| Carderock is located on the MD side of the Potomac, and is mentioned here because of it's proximity to DC and VA. There are two main climbing sections - flooding can prevent access to the bottoms of some climbs. Short walk in gets you right to the top of the rocks. Climbs are around 40 or so feet - top roping and bouldering. You can also see the MD data base for more information. Anchors are au natural - trees and gear placements, no bolts. PLEASE DO NOT POST ROUTES TO CARDEROCK HERE - THERE IS ALREADY AN EXTENSIVE LISTING UNDER MD ROUTES!!! THX! |

| Directions: | Take 495 (inner loop) beltway to the Carderock exit right at the Potomac (and bridge the separates MD from VA). Follow signs to Carderock. (1st exit off of parkway). Once in the area, take a right at the T intersection and park at the last lot you come to. Washrooms are right there. Hike past them and you're at the top of the rocks. Go right for a path down, or go straight for steep scramble down to bottom. |
