Lovers Leap
About Lovers Leap:
5 or 6 routes all about 60ft. ranging from 5.7 to 5.12 (Never climbed harder than 5.11 myself). I wouldn't lead any of it. Not much place to put pro and it would almost certainly pull if you fell on it. |
Approach: | I-81, Chilhowie, VA. Take 600 south 18.1 miles. Whitetop mountain road is unmarked, look for a birding trail sign along with a Whitetop Mountain Historical Sign. 2.9 miles to climb area, at 1.9 miles a parking lot for hiking to Buzzards Rock. Just past take road that has a faded NO PARKING sign. About 1/4 mile bear right on fork. Will take you to the lower antennae farm. Trail head is just to the right of that, sign up on tree has no information. |

Access Issues: | Redefines the term climbing in the wild. The whole area is overgrown. The ascent to the base, wether left or right of the peak, is overgrown. Lots of soft old logs and leaves. Plenty of brush, poison ivy, and other brires. Not a good place to try and take a pack. |
