Although not exactly a destination spot, the 30 or so granite sport routes hidden in the trees above Lago Lacar at San Martin de los Andes offer an interesting pastime for climbers who happen to be in the area. With difficulties ranging from 5.8 to 5.12, the climbing is distributed over 6 seperate walls. El Rincon is a 30 meter walk from convenient parking and has about 8 slabby face routes on a steep wall. There is also a nice beginner crag, La Escuelita, hidden up higher, with better rock and 6 bolt protected routes in the 5.8 to 5.9 range. Just to the left of La Escuelita are two more routes: a super fun, juggy, overhanging 5.10b and fairly desperate 11d/12a. But the real treasure can be found in the 3 routes up and to the right of La Escuelita (these are, from left to right, 10a, 11a and 11c). All 3 routes are great, but the 11a is, for the grade, one of the best sport-climbing routes on granite I've ever done.
