About Quebrada Paron:
Quebrada Paron is a magical place in the Cordillera Blanca above the town of Caraz. Low in the ravine, majestic El Cap-sized granite walls rise from either side, awaiting first ascents by hard-aid junkies. Higher, the famous wall route The Sphinx juts skyward. Finally, one arrives at Laguna Paron and the smaller Artesoncocha....turquoise lakes surrounded by world-famous Andean peaks. Do not miss this place if you head to the Cordillera. |

Directions: | From Huaraz, take a colectivo from the bridge on Luzuriaga to Caraz. In Caraz, hire a taxi or colectivo (50 soles should suffice) to drive you to the caretaker's hut at Laguna Paron, about 30km outside of town. The road passes lots of granite walls. From the hut, head along the north shore of Laguna Paron along the obvious and well-used trail to Base Camp for the peaks surrounding the Quebrada. |
