black rock spire

Average Rating = 0.00/5 black rock spire

This is the North-East face of the main spire. It reaches about 25' - 30' up and is comprised of sedimentary shale. The quality of the rock is very poor and it flakes off easily making it unsafe to climb. The top of the boulder is a mess of smaller broken rocks, grass and a manzanita tree. It is not possible to set up a safe anchor on this site.

This view shows another boulder in the area. You can also see a poison oak bush directly underneath the overhang as well as along the arete of the angled boulder making climbing on this feature inaccessible.

Right across the street from Black Rock Spire was a bench mark set into another boulder. You can retrieve the data sheet by going to: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_radius.prl and entering the GPS coordinates: N392730 W1231238, and then selecting the designation B1063.
