AAC Annual Dinner Event: A Who's Who of Climbing

SPEND AN EVENING WITH THREE CUPS OF TEA, ONE ASTRONAUT, AND DOZENS OF CLIMBING ICONS

Golden, Colorado – What do a best-selling author, NASA astronaut, handful of renowned explorers, and couple dozen icons of climbing have in common? They’ll all be gathering in Golden on February 21st for The American Alpine Club’s Annual Benefit & Awards Dinner. And you’re welcome to join them.

Greg Mortenson, Author of the #1 New York Times Best Seller, Three Cups of Tea, will provide the evening’s keynote address and will be available for book signing. Other attendees include:

• Layton Kor, quite possibly the most accomplished and influential climber of his time. He will receive the Club’s Underhill Award for lifetime achievement in recognition of his many pioneering ascents in the 1950s and ’60s.
• Lonnie and Ellen Thompson, who will be there to receive the Club’s Brower Award for conservation. The Paleoclimatologist couple has spent decades pioneering our understanding of climate change by coring and studying ice from mountain glaciers and ice caps around the world.
• John Grunsfeld, a NASA astronaut scheduled to fly the next shuttle mission. He’ll be bringing a camera belonging to the late Brad Washburn into space for one last picture.
• The discovers of Mallory’s body on Mt Everest.
• The youngest person to ever climb all of Colorado’s 14ers without support.
• Two members of the American first ascent of Antarctica’s highest peak.
• Two women from the infamous 1996 year on Everest—featured in Into Thin Air.
• AAC president Jim Donini fresh from another season of first ascents in Patagonia.
