Steel is going to be far more expensive. Treated 4x4 posts cemented in will be plenty strong and last a very long time. If you're dead set on steel contact your local steel recycler yard and see if they'll sell to you by the pound. I would stick with lumber. Steel is going go rust and be harder to mount to.
