'Da Vinci' Opens Amid Hoopla and Rage
In reply to: Christian groups from various countries, including South Korea, Thailand and India have protested the movie, planning boycotts, a hunger strike and attempts to block or shorten screenings. In India, the government even delayed the premiere, putting it on a temporary hold while it weighs complaints by Catholic groups that want the film banned. A decision is not expected before Friday. Hey look, it's just a movie people. Okay, I understand the blasphemous nature of its basic premise (I read the novel), but it's fiction (and formulaic at that) and nothing more. Giving it this kind of ridiculous attention is akin to the hordes that protested Mel Gibson's, The Passion of the Christ for being anti-semetic and will do nothing more than insure huge box office revenues. As the director Ron Howard put it, "My advice, since virtually no one has really seen the movie yet, is to not go see the movie if you think you're going to be upset." It's as simple as that. I for one am not going to spend one thin dime on it. I'm going to buy a ticket for the movie showing on the adjacent screen and then plunk myself down to watch the Da Vinci Code. See, no problem.

The Bible, Christianity, so young when comapred to the other religions of the earth...so silly, so childish. I laugh my ass off when you bible thumpers take umbrage at disparaging views about your religion. Don't you know the Bbile has no more validity than the Greek or Norse myths? In fact, you Christians can blame the current problems in the Middle East on your precious religion(think Crusades, seizing the holy land from those godless Saracens). Leonardo Da Vinci had it right....it's the Chrsitians who were burning heretics at the stake that prevented the great man from fully expressing his views. Hey, Pinkie, you know that Christ was trained by Buddhists in Alexandria, right? Good man, but the ideas he preached were already a thousand years old... Flame away, Bible thumping homophobe brother o' mine.

it's hillarious that some people take it so seriously and it's even more hillarious that they are the reason the makers don't even need to pay for movie ads. the movie is practically advertising itself through morons who are going on a hunger strike over it. too fuckin' hillarious. I bet you tom cruise wishes people went on hunger strikes over his movies ...

Apparently, the Cannes critics weren't that impressed... http://movies.msn.com/.../davincicode_critics
In reply to: Laughter rippled through the theater near the end of the film at the Cannes press screening Tuesday night when Hanks' character, symbologist Robert Langdon, reveals a key secret to co-star Audrey Tautou with ponderous melodrama. From then on, critics who had sat largely in polite silence for more than two hours tittered at will as the final scenes played out. "It's not a good sign when your film's big revelatory moment is greeted with laughter," wrote Stephen Schaefer, a film writer for The Boston Herald. I'm sure I'll still end up seeing it, though.

In reply to: I'm gonna go see it with a Mormon chick. Should be interesting. I'm going to see it while getting head from a Mormon chick in Georgia. After which, a good ol' cross fire and some chanting will finish the evening. Let us not forget I'll be eating meat on Friday. Having said that... Let the fanatics do what they do. They serve no purpose and never get anything done. Instead of helping others, they b*tch about movies and books and movies based on books. Dan Brown wrote a FICTIONAL book based on facts. He never made the claim "the church is wrong". I think we all know the church is wrong. In any event, I'll make that claim. Other than that, I love fanatics. They're entertaining at the least. I wonder when they will finally realize all that judgement they pass is really calling the kettle black. I think they missed that part of required reading in the bible in which God, himself, says only HE can pass judgement. Hey, who am I to speak? God is a joke, the Bible is a fraud, the Catholic Church is the proverbial devil, Jesus was real, had a wife, a child (cause they were family people back then, ya know), nothing gets resurrected (maybe the Browns), there was no flood, the Earth and life are just an accident (so accept it already), the Holy Grail has nothing to do with a stupid cup, Charlamenge, heathen, heathen, heathen, evil, Templar, Illuminati, Masons, people, breaking free of the bondage of religion, faith, and spaghetti with meatballs. Don't forget the garlic bread and live well. Atheist, out. Peas and chicken grease.

One premise of that book is "what if Jesus knew kung fu?". I love Moore's books, including that one*, but best not to take 'em too seriously. For a more accurate story of Jesus, I recommend Jesus the Son of Man by Kahlil Gibran. *I think my favorite part of Lamb is when Jesus & Biff do the beatitudes.
In reply to: Wait, what are we giving the meek? Let's see, uh, here: Blessed are the meek for to them we shall say 'attaboy'. A little weak. Yeah. Let's let the meek inherit the earth. Can't you give the earth to the whiners? ... How many is that? Seven Not enough. We need one more. How about the dumbfvcks?" No Josh, not the dumbfvcks. You've done enough for the dumbfvcks. [names a couple of apostles] ...

I'm amazed that there are still people who still think The Da Vinci Code is real. Did they miss Dan Brown and Michael Baigent (author of "holy blood holy grail") slugging it out in court over who made it up first?

That's why when they won the case novelists everywhere breathed again- they won't have to worry about paying for every bit of history they draw from.

In reply to: La projection a en effet été secouée de rigolades irrespectueuses, avant de s'achever en concert de sifflets et en concours international de «moues gênées». which can be translated in : The projection was shaken by disrespectful laughs before achieving in a booing concert and in an international championship of "embarassed pouts".

Why is it when confronted with dissenting views about their religion, christians go ape shit, put their fingers in their ears and scream "not true, not true!" You find the thought of Christ being trained by Buddhists, who were known to have traveled throughout the world before Christ, funny? I find the whole invisible man in the sky thing pretty damn funny, too. And no, Thorne, the bible has no more validity than any other mythological piece of work, no less validity either. The fact that our current administration claims to be in the pocket of Jesus while waging wars in countries we have no understanding of is pretty fucking funny too. Let me throw some laughing emoticons in here to demonstrate my mirth at such hypocrisy

You seem easily excitable. :? How about just backing up your claims, instead of resorting to hysterics. Which of those "old" religions has/had anything near the following of current dat Christianity? Do you really think The New Testament is just fiction? Can you provide any credible sources to back it up? How about a source that Jesus "was trained by Buddhists"?

How about the entire Hindu religion is a few thousand years older than christianity? How about the religions of the entire eastern half of the globe? And throw me some facts that the New Testament is a factual piece of work. You have no way of proving it anymore than I do of disproving it. It's all speculation and what you choose to believe. Pick up a book other than church approved literature dude.
