I'm planning to get my bellybutton pierced but I worry about its effects on my climbing. So far, I haven't seen any climbers with bellybutton rings. I know it's gonna hurt like hell the first few days/weeks but I wonder if it'll make a difference in the long run. Any climbers out there with bellybutton piercing experiences?

why hello, cuteass - (no harassment intended, but with a uid like cuteassclimber, what can you expect?) I have had my bellybutton pierced for over two years. The only problems I have had with it were when I had a C-shaped ring on it that used little rubber washers to hold it on. needless to say, it didn't stay on very well. other than that, it hasn't been a problem. ps. get a barbell instead of a ring, at least to begin with. It'll heal faster that way, because it won't move around as much.

I would guess any extra stuff hanging off your body would best be removed before climbing, that includes any piercings or jewlery.

is there a problem with my bellybutton being pierced (in combination with the fact that i'm male)? It's a 10 gauge btw, not a girly little 14 or 16 gauge.

I think you should take it off. Coz it could hurt if u fall and scrape yourself if you're wearin a tube to show the "ring" if you are wearing a full shirt... just take it off... nobody's noticing it anyways..

actually some more info on bellybutton piercing: it wont hurt unless it gets infected. so, make sure you CLEAN your bellybutton before you get it and clean it regulary for the first few weeks.

I work at a gym where quite a few women have navel piercings and occaisionally one of two things happen. One, they catch on clothing or harness. Ouch! Two, the backing comes off and they make their way out. Gone. The smartest answer I've seen is to put a piece of tape over it. No snags, no coming undone.

yeah, i've seen a couple, i guess after it heals it'll be fine, but until then be careful, cuz the harness might ride up or something, and that would suck

My God....Think of the extra weight!!! But then again, you might be able to do away with your harness and just tie into the belly ring. I'm waiting to see a Petzl hanger poking out above a pair of low rise Prana yoga pants.

i had some friends tell me a story about this drunk guy at the Red River Gorge who was slack lining late at night and fell and ripped his nipple ring out. they were confused by the drunken moans that ensued for hours that night. kinda funny though...

There is a serious danger in climbing with a belly button piercing. I will make fun of you for enduring pain and inconvenience for such a pointless and formerly-trendy contrivance. Beware. :D

If you put in a short barbell, you should be fine, if you find that it still catches. You can tape it down. If you still find that its still uncomfortable. remove it before you climb. I have both my nipples pierced and I find that if I don't tape them down the rope tends to knock the piercing from side to side causing irritation at the end of the day.

In reply to: In reply to: dumbest thread ever Why bother posting anything if you think that this is a dumb thread? Skip over it and move on. Yeah man, this is a serious issue. If you don't think it is important for cutebootyclimber to get his/her bellybutton adorned with a trinket, then go crank sick routes, then don't chime in. Buster. This is such a serious issue that he/she made it his/her first post. Maybe he/she took the trouble to create a profile just to ask this question. And what kind of name is redpiton? It doesn't even tell us anything about the hotness or lack thereof of your buttocks.

Just make sure you pierce it with something useful. I'd use a rapid link, that way if I have to bail I've got it there with me. Other suggestions - chalk bag, mp3 player, hilti or bosch, camera, #6 friend, emergency contraception, or a gat...to cap my ass for wasting my 100th post on this.

In reply to: And what kind of name is redpiton? You will have NO problems witha belly button peicing once it heals. yes, while it is still new, if you catch it on a hold, or wear a harness, you will be sore, once it is healed you will be fine. why would it fall out?? unless you have no beads on the ends it will stay put... it most likely will get more rubbing while you sleep at night then while you climb...

I put a large band-aid over mine (when I remember), and eliviates any discomfort from contact with the harness.

Going back to the original question... I have mine pierced. It's never been a problem. Just take extra care to clean out any dirt accumulated while climbing because they can become infected very easily when they're brand new. Good luck. :)

I have my nipples pierced and have felt some discomfort with the rope running over them or the rock rubbing against them but I have never taped them. With all these people saying that they have heard of them getting ripped out though, I think I will start doing that today. That kinda ruins my plan of getting large ones and using them to hold my pro though.
