Has any one ever though of this... basically it would be a Huge feature with really nice shapes on all sides, but also there would be about 10 t nuts within the hold itself, so you can actually bolt on other holds to this giant hold/feature! I have seen holds with small screw ons on them, but this giant hold would allow for way more fun and possibilities~!

The weight would be unreal. There is a large geometric in our gym, and it takes two people to get it onto the wall. Build the features into the wall. Our gym has an unbelievable amount of features in the walls, all done with reciprocating saws and sandpaper.

i don't think that that wsould work very well for most walls have features on it or the bolts are not a standard pattern so it would be hard to mount on a normal wall except a woddie that has holes specificaly drilled in to it. also it would cost an arm and a leg, so most people would just buy more smaller holds insted of one guge one. mtman

This could work with lots of holds, it does not neccisarily need to be huge, but i think it is a good idea, beacuse it allows for way more possibilities and you can always just move the feature to wherever even if it requires a couple of guys! Etech Holds has a giant feature called the Mother and that thing is huge, it would be cool to have hold like that with built in t-nuts, would make comps way more interesting!

One of the gyms here in MN, Prairie Walls, has a few XXXL holds they manufactured themselves that are just that. My favorite is this giant rail, maybe 4-5 feet long, a foot wide, and maybe 6-8 inches deep that has t-nuts all over it. It usually finds its way into mantle problems, where you gotta mantle onto this beast. It's pretty cool.

No quite what you had in mind, but this does allow you to bolt holds to holds, and change them up in a variety of ways. Plus, I have to tell you I have dealt with James a number of times, he always takes the time to answer questions and be as helpful as possible. Their products are good quality at a good price. I have been very happy with everything I have gotten from them. Nope, not affiliated with them in any way, just passing on some info. I like cheapholds for the same reason I like gearexpress...good service & products. http://www.cheapholds.com/stackerz.html

Yeah screw ons will work, I have them on some of my ginat sloopy holds, but I think it would be cool to have tnuts basically imbedded into the hold! Sounds like it would just have to be a project for a gym, Shipping a beast like this would cost a fortune!

i've seen em in pictures of euro comps. I think entreprise makes some large features like a 3 or 4 foot stalactite which has tnuts on it. they are made out of fiber glass just like those portable climbing walls.

Yeah but instead of fiberglass, it would be made out of plastic, it would be cool to have a dual texture system, where you can climb on the feature in certain spots and then on the "slick" parts, you coukld have the t-nuts to bolt on other holds! the cool thing is if the feature was large enough, you could bolt on some giant holds to it AKA The Boss, or some giant tufa etc....

a few companies market something like this in varying sizes. the most recent addition to this group is an hold by E-grips. it's an angular block with inset t-nuts on the different planes.

funny you should ask I was working on some sketches as I read your post, and Mr.Poo and I were just talking about something similar, if not exactly that here...future home here is Mr.Poo's idea that prompted me to start thinkin' about it... In reply to: that is what i do for my wall at home, make modular features out of wood. i have a pyramid, an angled box and boxy trialngle angled thingy. what i do to make them modular is i give them a plywood backing that protrudes and inch out on all sides. this plywood makes the base of the shape that touches the wall. then i just use a propper amount of screws to secure it. I think that if the element was kept small enough to still be managable by one or two people, it would be a great idea. I don't think that it would be too hard to coordinate the bolt locations with your t-nut locations either.... even if it isn't on a grid. I am going to build a few for my wall..... once I get some time... I think it would be a great way to add some variety to your wall.

Already some out there. http://www.bendcrete.com/climbing/features.html I also remember seeing some that were stalactites with t-nuts for overhangs. Those were very nice looking. Chris

YEah The mother from etech is the biggest "hold" on the market, hands down, I think it would be cool to have a hold this size, but with maybe 5 t-nuts installed into the hold allowing for other large or small holds to be bolted on top of the hold!

hey wyattearp, i'm pickin up what you're puttin down. i help manage a gym in ohio, and i'm DESPERATELY searching for the exact same thing that you're looking for. bendcrete (u.k.) and megaholds(canada) both have the sort of thing we're talking about, but i've seen pics from other gyms of literally hundreds of shapes and sizes of these "macro" features. look for the word "tufa" and macro if you're interested. unfortunately, i haven't found any US makers. lemme know if you find something

Check out their "volume" series.
