I think we can safely assume at this point that there are, in fact, no outdoor company scandals out there.

In reply to: In reply to: Just curious - does anyone know of any outdoor companies that have totally violated their espoused missions and in the process the trust of the climbing community? You mean like the editor of a national climbing magazine starting a bolt war? Or the same editor of a climbing magazine acting like a drunken fool and getting busted by the National Park Service for stupidity? Or the same editor (who was re-hired) recently trivializing the death of a great ski mountaineer? yeah somthing just like that. so lets hear some names passive aggressive boy.

Why are all the hippies opposed to capitalism? Why can't REI make money? Unless you are a vegan, don't ride in cars or buses or planes, and the tires on your bike are not made from petroleum based rubber (which will never bio-degrade), then why rip on Alpinist and REI? We ALL consume. I only wish they sold quality climbing gear at WAL-MART. They would have to sell the same name brand stuff I'm buying now, but the cost would be lower, and I'd buy more of it. Can't wait till there is a WAL-MART in Baghdad! Just trying to get a rise outta you lefty's You know I love you

First off our troops do deserve the best gear that is made and if that is camelback and whatever else then im more then happy that outdoor companys sell to the military. I know i like to have nice gear that wont c*** out on me on the first trip and our troops deserve the same top quality gear. Next i cant really think of any outdoor company scandals off of the top of my head. As for companys like REI that encourage people to buy new gear and go on expensive trips to "see" the outdoors yea i mignt not agree with them on that but they have every right to be a succesful company and as much as i hate to say it so does walmart. I shop at REI because it has the gear that i want or need i try to go to smaller local shops when possible but they dont alwas have what i need. And online shopping i hate waiting for the gear to arrive at my house in 3-4 days.
