Oh good grief, cheerleaders and gymnasts probably end up with more lifelong injuries than climbers do. Nearly everyone I know who played highschool football has knee, neck, or back problems. Let the kid climb.

Looking at this route, I am not sure this route is more tendon injury prone than the granite crimps I was playing on when I was 13 in Yosemite.

I heard it from a reputable source who is involved in the World Youth Climbing Championships. Whether they were correct or not is another story, but she seems to have gone "under the radar" the last few years, which backs up the comment. I wasn't trying to say she should stop climbing, or that she will 'suck' later, I'm just saying that it will be unfortunate if/when she gets tendonitis at a young age. And when puberty hits, there is a decent chance she will lose strength, or at least have to change the way she climbs due to a change in centre of gravity. Will she suck? Probably not. Will she get frustrated due to a drop (perhaps only brief) in performance? Probably.

Sigh, here comes all the hate. I guess I shouldn't have been so crass in my original post, and worded my "concerns" in a more heartfelt manner. Live and learn. Til next time.

To beat a dead horse, I wish I had started climbing when I was younger. I started at about 28 and climbing 3 times a week caused me all types of problems. If I could have learned when I was younger and my body recovered faster I would have been a lot better off.

Jcrew is right, don't back pedal now, just stay the course. That way if she does happen to get tendonitis, you can give everyone the finger and tell them I told you so.
