I'll keep my injuries list to what he asked about.

I suffered a torn ACL and MCL in my right knee in a skiing accident. I took six weeks off of climbing and did a bunch of physiotherapy. When I got back to climbing I took it easy on the knee - that meant no flexy moves. It's been about two years now, and the injured knee is little more than an annoyance now, and that's just because it pops frequently. Occasionally it gets loose after a long approach, but then I just have to be mindful of it. I've got a DonJoy solid brace with a hinged joint, but I only use that for high-impact sports like skiing, tennis, volleyball, etc.

As for wrist injuries, I'm just getting back on the horse after having to take six months off of serious climbing, due to tendonitis and legament damage to my left wrist (from climbing too hard). My approach to healing the wrist was anti-inflams and sport tape. It still bothers me, and I have to cut some climbing times short, but I'm confident it will get better.

I'm only 26 and have taken enough of a beating to realize that if I want to be living an active lifestyle at age 50, I'd better let my body heal up before beating on it again.

Look at my profile, I'm only 15 and I have screwed up knees and ankles. Simple. Don't let your problems rule you. Don't ignore any pain, ice, wrap it, elevate it, rest it. If your doctor gave you brace(s) to wear, wear them. Don't ignore what you doctor said. You just got to have power over your problems, not your problems powering you.

Funny you should ask - I just got back from a visit to my physician, who went over an MRI scan that had been done 6 days ago. It showed a (badly) torn Miniscus, the cartilage that keeps your upper leg bone riding properly in place above your lower leg bone, generally speaking. I think I'm gonna opt for the surgery because of the severity of the damage. My doctor recommended this 'cause he doesn't think that it will heal on it's own.
I'll do whatever it takes to get myself back into shape - normally I train 4-5 days a week, which includes sport climbing at or above my grade limit 2 days a week, cardio & weghts 2 days a week & bouldering endurance & power-endurance 1 day a week. I intend to get back to that schedule as soon as possible after my surgery.
If you're worried about scratching up your brace, let it go. As far as the stretched tendons go, check with your doctor or a good (recommended) PT about how to minmize the handicap of those injuries. Good luck & heal well. - D

When I first went to my knee specialist he said "how old are you, you have REALLY OLD Knees . . ." the major damage is from a bad Boston driver - but years of running and a few too many bad falls from a horse, and I do have some messed up joints.

Trekking poles help with the insane approaches, and I do a lot of leg work with weights to keep the muscles strong. Only bothers me with intense knee drop moves . . .

Best thing for my knee and keeping it in climbing shape though: yoga. Keep it strong and flexible.

My friends like to say I break easily. I have a torn ligament in my right wrist. Also a right shoulder that is so loose that it is the equivalent of dislocating it about six times. My left one is loose as well not as bad though, since I have been diagnosed with loose joints. I have learned to deal with the pain of my wrist, since the pain is more managable since the shot of cortizone I had last year. I don't have to tape it or anything, as soon as it starts to act up I have to stop climbing for the day. Since I am not a good canidate to have surgery on it, also my archery career would be over as well. The shoulder I have learned the joy of IcyHot. However this really doesn't help the pain it just takes my mind off of it.

I'm eighteen so I have jsut learned to deal with the pain, so I now have a really high tolerance for pain. Oh yeah my legs need surgery too, because I have constricted compartment syndrome. Haven't had that yet either. I pretty messed up, but I deal. Oh yeah I going to start playing ice hockey next year at school. I wonder how much I will get hurt doing that.

torn (2x) & since reconstructed ACL of my right knee & a whole bunch of missing/ripped up cartilage. unfortunately it still pops out every now & then. i've got a lot of slop in there, doc says the replacement graft used for the ACL has probably stretched & the joint isn't as solid/tight as it should be. i could have another surgery either taking a graft from my good knee or using cadaver parts or i could just baby it. so now i wear a brace. i've got the big ole robocop looking brace, but only wear that when i'm hiking or such. when i climb i just wear a neoprene type sleeve/brace with stays. i've never had any problems climbing, its always been the quick paced pivoting sports like basketball, skiing, etc. that seem to give me the blowouts. so, i only stick to climbing now! :D

i pulled the tendon that runs along side my wirst down the pinky side, or something to that extent. i was in so much pain i didnt really listen to the doctor telling me what i did, but it pulled a nice chunk of bone out as well that could be seen on the xrays. the recovery only took two months and im just barely getting back to climbing, even though i think i still have a small piece of free floating bone in my writst. it was alot more painful then any bones ive broken(legs, arms, ribs, ect.) and being stupid me i tried to climb the day my cast came off, bad idea, now i just have to be careful not to wieght that side of my hand or hand jam...but the doc said ill be back to normal soon.

A pain from the tendons by my elbows, radiated to my back. There it sits.
Does anybody else have this? I can climb only about once a month now because I over did it in the beggining.

First broke left femur(skiing), rehabbed that, then went on to blow out left acl and cartilage on the bump course(skiing). Right shoulder rotator cuff partially torn (volleyball). Broke metatarsals in left foot(unknown, showed up on xrays years later). Many other severe sprains and other partially torn ligaments and soft tissue damages, (recent ice climbing fall this winter).

To remedy, marry yourself a kinesiologist, so when ever your injured she can fix you up. Seriously, I did not do to much for a couple of years while I was recovering, I spent one winter in australia swimming and hiking. Then when my wife came along, I started working out, running, and biking. I haven't worn my klingon ( dimmensions knee brace) in a couple of years cause I've conditioned my legs. All I know is working out and being more careful has cut way down on my injuries. Climbing has been great for flexibility and low impact for the most part on the body.

Cheers
