No surprise, granite is kicking butt here. The results thus far, including ties, for those of you keeping score at home

Granite: 11
Limestone: 5
Sandstone: 4
Dolomite: 2
Grit: 1

Aww, where's the love for sandstone? I know it's soft, but you can get some really good sand too, in Red Rocks and, I hear, Indian Creek. I wonder, if maybe I just love Red Rocks best and that's skewing my vote? Nah! Sandstone! and... Red Rocks! WOOT WOOT! hehe

I love it all, but for number one its gotta be sandstone. When its really compact like the stuff near Chattanooga TN, or Someplaces like Turtle Lake near Durango CO, its as good as it gets. Serious friction. Good slopers.AAHHHH

Granite! The more solid the rock is the better I feel, down with sandstone!

I have to agree with wyclimber and roughster on this one. It depends on the type of climbing... and for sport, limestone rocks! pockets, jugs, lots of overhangs, plus it just looks cool!
Then again it depends very much on where you are too...

Windgate sandstone, Indian Creek! Althought the Dakota sandstone at Turtle Lake, Durango CO makes for some awsome bouldering.

Hmmmmm, quartzite sandstone. Hard to beat that of Mt Arrapiles and the Grampians (Victoria, Australia), but Lake Louise (B.C. Canada) comes close. This stuff makes granite look brittle, makes of bomb proof gear.

The basalt of Owens River Gorge (near Bishop, California) is the best sports climbing I've done.

Funky Limestone/sanstone mix-Cedar Canyon, UT

Other Fav's
