My girlfriend wants to start climbing, but she wants to keep her hands soft and she doesn't want any calluses to develop. She wants to climb for mild exercise indoors and as part of physical therapy to help with overcoming muscle spasms from back surgery. She doesn't like yucky tape. Are there gloves out there for her? If so, where can I get some?

No she doesn't.

Thank you.

Also, PTFTW, to keep things in style, of course.

You might just have to limit the amount of climbing you do. IF you are unwilling to sand off calouses.
Burts bees products do work well. so does cornhuskers lotion.
ok since you brought up sex not us.
use lots of lotion when you give him that hand job. or you could actually have intercourse. I seriously doubt you will get calouses there from climbing. or if you do lots of us might like to see a vid of how you actually acomplished that.
climb bareback oops I mean climb barehanded and wear nice soft gloves for the sex.
or if all else fails leave the light on during sex so he sees you your hands are not really a guys.
if you are going to continue climbing AND you are doing it at your own place. there is a spray on rubbery kind of stuff ment for tools NOT HIS TOOL MIND YOU! but pliers and such. that you could spray on the holds to protect your hands. heck it would probably increase both of your hang time on smaller holds.
hmmmm now that i think about it maybe I should try that spray on stuff my self for a bit more girth. on second thought go ahead and try it on him and let us know how that works out
The fact is unless you are grabing big jugs, gloves just do not mix with climbing and even on big jugs they are prone to wanting to slide off.
IF it is really him that does not want you to have gnarly hands AND you really want to climb. And he climbs a lot. Look him in the eye and tell him to suck it up, you put up with his gnarly hands.
What I have done in really cold weather is got a too small pair of jersey gloves. Taped them on at the wrist then taped the hell out of the gloves. it actually worked better than anything else I tried.(glove wise) meaning they only sucked real bad.
the actuall best thing is to sigh tape your hands. we have found a citrus based spray cleaner that smells real nice. and it will take off the glue residue with out hard scrubbing or harsh cleaners. did i mention it smells good too? just like oranges

I don't know where i said i didn't like the answer, however I've been to multiple physical therapists for the past 2 years and nothing has worked so i thought i would give this a try because since i've been climbing with my bf since june my back has had some relief. I just want soft hands. My good friend from college was on our crew team and had disgusting calloused hands, I just don't want that to happen to me. and the moisturizing ideas are great thats more what i was looking for if there was no gloves. My boyfriend doesn't mind either way he just wants me to be happy

We have a winner.

I meant it more like i like my soft hands and its not that he cares but i do i guess i miss worded it. I guess the calloused hands interferes with my job and thought i could climb and get around it. I guess if there is no gloves i could try a good moisturizer

I guess it came out wrong, i dont want gnarly hands. He doesnt care I just was getting agravated with that one poster so i said that but what is this spray stuff? i wouldnt mind tape but is so hard to get off and just seems like a pain to tape every time, i just thought there could be something else. if not I'll try anything unlike what some posters think i'm not serious or whAtever, but i want to climb more often, We have gone ever week since about june to his friends bouldering gym which is amazing and fun. The guys help me out or don't make fun of me but you have to start somewhere. My back problems are from weak muscles between my shoulders and on my shoulders and climbing seems to help. My legs are strong but my upper body is lacking and im trying to fix that through climbing i just dont want rough hands. I'm not trying to be a pro or excellent or master, I just want to get some exercise thats more fun and less expensive that going to pt's that dont work.

so whats the spray called that you put on the holds? and also the spray re remove tape residue?

Oh wait, bonus points! You may have just succeeded in getting this moved to Campground, where any mention of a hot chick must be accompanied with pics.

In fairness you should probably buy your own holds. for the rubbery spray on stuff. it was and is never intended for the pupose that i suggested it.
plasti-dip is one, blue tool magic is another.
I actually do understand you are serious about the phisical therapy aspect of this for your back. So i spent the time seaching the web for you. I did not actually find the spray on stuff that I know used to be avaliable.
the cleaner is called PEELS PLUS. this stuff is the shit.
it used to be avaliable in stores it seems it no longer is. BUT it is online the last time we got some we had to get a full case (we use it at boat races and in our wood shop. It will remove glue adisives from tape. it will remove wood stain from your hands. it will even remove epoxy from your hands (as long as the epoxy is still tacky) it will remove tar from your car. oil based paints. on and on and on. now the real kicker it contains NO hydro carbon based solvents. it is none toxic. safe for kids and pets. AND is biodegradable . it is based soley on citrus oil. thats why it smells like oranges
WOW i just went to their web site they NOW you can buy one can at a time. Peelsplus.com. this stuff DOES take off the althetic tape residue with out any fuss or trouble spray about a teaspoon or two in one hand and work it in rinse it off your done.
Good luck with your back! no matter how much jesting I did in my first post I do feel for you. and wanted to try to help. I just could not help my self from having a bit of fun too

HMMM i just had a thought( hey it didn't even hurt this time) while i would never try gloves to climb if I were actually climbing to climb as I have lost enough skill over the many years I was away from it and why limit myself even more! I would try those deepsea diving gloves before I coated a good set of holds in plastidip. they fit Very snugly people have to use talc powder to slide them of and on. I have watched racing rescue divers do emergency medical procedures while still wearing them so they HAVE to allow for good feeling and dexterity. HECK i might even try them my self so i can try to start climbing here in IL months ahead of when I was planing to get back to the crags

No. I am just a guy with a vast knowledge of what is usually completely useless shit. With way to much time on my hands out in the frozen cornfields.
